Barbara Long, violinist and
native of California, began her early violin studies with her mother
and then continued as a scholarship student of Louis Persinger at the Juilliard
School. Upon graduation, while maintaining a very active musical life
in New York, she earned two additional degrees from the Manhattan
School of Music and subsequently a U.S. Government Fulbright award for
study in Cologne with Max
Rostal. U.S. State Department tours have taken Ms. Long to 30
countries, including those in the Far East with the Lyrica String
Quartet. Her appearances in solo and chamber music recitals in Europe,
Mexico, and New York have inspired critical acclaim. Ms. Long was, for
a number of years, a member of the Hunter College faculty and
concertmaster of the Hunter Symphony. She also worked with the New York
City Opera Orchestra for 10 years. At present, Ms. Long performs
regularly with the New York Chamber Symphony, New
York Pops, Little
Orchestra Society, Colonial
Symphony, Westchester
Philharmonic, Mostly Mozart Festival Orchestra,
and the Leonia Chamber Musicians.
